BPSC TRE 4.0 Exam Date 2026: Syllabus, Pattern, 33,320 Posts

BPSC TRE 4.0 exam date is not out yet. Exam pattern, syllabus, negative marking, class-wise vacancies, age limit, ₹100 fee and how to apply by 26 October.

BPSC TRE 4.0 exam date is not announced yet. BPSC’s official exam calendar says the date will be published after the application period ends on 26 October 2026. There are 33,320 school teacher posts this time, and the exam is a single written test with negative marking. Applications are still open, so you can apply first and prepare while you wait for the date.

One warning before you start. Some sites still show “22 to 27 September 2026” as the exam date. That came from an older, provisional calendar. Applications only opened on 25 September, so that date is clearly wrong.

BPSC TRE 4.0 exam date: what we know

Here’s the official position, from BPSC’s own documents:

  • The exam calendar dated 14 August 2026 lists TRE 4.0 with the date as “TBD” and the remark: the date of the exam will be published after the advertisement period is over.
  • The advertisement says the exam may be held in more than one phase, depending on the number of candidates.
  • Candidates who are still appearing for STET 2026 can apply, but they will only get an admit card if they pass STET 2026 before the written exam. So the STET 2026 result has to come out before TRE 4.0 can be held for those subjects.

My honest guess is that BPSC will announce the date a few weeks after 26 October. Last time, TRE 3.0 was held in March 2024, cancelled after a paper leak, and held again on 19 to 22 July 2024. So expect strict rules on exam day, and don’t trust any “leaked paper” message you see on Telegram.

I’ll update this page the day BPSC posts the exam date and admit card notice.

Vacancies class-wise

Level Posts Starting pay
Classes 1 to 5 (Primary) 3,847 Initial pay scale ₹25,000 + allowances
Classes 6 to 8 (Middle) 8,563 Initial pay scale ₹28,000 + allowances
Classes 9 to 10 (Secondary, incl. special school teachers) 4,370 (3,877 + 493 added) Basic pay ₹31,000 + allowances
Classes 11 to 12 (Higher secondary) 16,540 (16,101 + 439 added) Basic pay ₹32,000 + allowances
Total 33,320

Half of all posts are for Classes 11 to 12. Chemistry alone has 3,695 posts there, Physics has 1,758, English 1,321 and Botany 1,078. If you have a postgraduate degree and B.Ed in one of these subjects, this is a very good year to be in the race.

Subject-wise and district-wise tables are on bpsc.bihar.gov.in under Advertisement 15/2026.

Exam pattern

Every level has one paper of 150 questions, 150 marks, 2 hours 30 minutes. It’s all multiple choice (objective).

Level Part I: Language (qualifying) Part II: General Studies Part III: Subject
Classes 1 to 5 30 questions 120 questions None
Classes 6 to 8 30 questions 40 questions 80 questions
Classes 9 to 10 30 questions 40 questions 80 questions
Classes 11 to 12 30 questions 40 questions 80 questions

Rules you must know:

  • Part I is only qualifying. You need at least 30% in it, but its marks don’t count for merit.
  • Merit: Classes 1 to 5 are ranked on Part II marks. All other levels are ranked on Part II + Part III.
  • Negative marking: one-third of a mark for each wrong answer.
  • Five options (A to E). Option E means “I don’t want to answer”. If you don’t fill any of the five options, you still lose one-third of a mark. So always fill something, even if it’s E.
  • Minimum qualifying marks: 40% for General, 36.5% for BC, 34% for EBC and 32% for SC, ST, women and PwD candidates.
  • No interview and no re-evaluation of answer sheets.
  • You can choose one subject only, and only one in which you passed the TET.

Syllabus

BPSC says the subject papers follow SCERT/NCERT books, and the General Studies paper follows SCERT, but the level of questions matches the qualification needed for that post. So a Class 11 to 12 Chemistry paper is set at postgraduate level, using the school syllabus as the base.

Part I, Language: practical knowledge of English and one of Hindi, Urdu or Bangla. The language you choose applies to every class level you apply for.

Part II, General Studies:

  • Classes 1 to 5: elementary maths, mental ability, general awareness, general science, social science, Indian national movement, geography and environment.
  • Classes 6 to 12: elementary maths, general awareness, general science, Indian national movement and geography.

Part III, Subject:

  • Classes 6 to 8: one of Maths & Science, Social Science, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit or English.
  • Classes 9 to 10: one of Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, English, Science, Maths, Physical Education, Music, Social Science, Bangla, Fine Arts, Dance, Maithili, Arabic or Persian.
  • Classes 11 to 12: one of 30 subjects, from Hindi, English and Maths to Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, History, Political Science, Computer Science, Commerce subjects, and regional languages such as Bhojpuri, Magahi and Maithili.

For Social Science (Classes 6 to 10), you pick History or Geography in Section I, then one more subject in Section II.

Eligibility in short

Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is a must:

Level TET needed
Classes 1 to 5 CTET or BTET Paper I
Classes 6 to 8 CTET or BTET Paper II
Classes 9 to 10 STET Paper I
Classes 11 to 12 STET Paper II

Qualifications follow NCERT/NCTE rules. In short: Class 12 + D.El.Ed for Classes 1 to 5, a graduation + B.Ed (or D.El.Ed) for Classes 6 to 10, and a postgraduation + B.Ed for Classes 11 to 12. Computer Science for Classes 11 to 12 doesn’t need a B.Ed. The full list of accepted degrees is long, so check pages 5 to 11 of the advertisement for your subject.

New today (13 October): BPSC says candidates who passed D.El.Ed (session 2024 to 2026, exam year 2026) can apply by uploading the web copy of their marksheet.

Age limit:

  • Minimum (as on 1 August 2026): 18 years for Classes 1 to 8, 21 years for Classes 9 to 12.
  • Maximum (as on 1 August 2024): 37 for unreserved men, 40 for BC, EBC and unreserved women, 42 for SC, ST and transgender candidates.
  • Extra relaxation: 10 years for PwD, 5 years for Bihar government employees, 3 years plus service for ex-servicemen. Teachers already working in panchayat and municipal schools get relaxation in the upper age limit.

For candidates from other states: you can apply, but reservation, including women’s reservation (50% in Classes 1 to 8, 35% in Classes 9 to 12), is only for native residents of Bihar. Also, 40% of all posts go to candidates who passed Class 10 or 12 from a school in Bihar. The other 60% are open to all qualified candidates.

How to apply

  1. Go to bpsconline.bihar.gov.in and complete One Time Registration (OTR) with your own mobile number and email. Even if you made an OTR earlier, the advertisement asks you to do it again on the new portal.
  2. Create your profile in 6 steps: personal details, address, other details, qualifications, experience, then a live webcam photo and your Hindi and English signatures. Lock the profile.
  3. Link DigiLocker if you want to pull documents directly (optional).
  4. Under New Application, pay the ₹100 fee online (SBI gateway) by 25 October.
  5. Choose your posts and give your order of preference (for example, 11 to 12 first, then 1 to 5). You get one application only.
  6. Submit by 26 October 2026 and download the printout. There is no correction window, so check every entry before you pay.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Mixing up name, date of birth or Aadhaar in OTR. These can’t be changed later.
  • Picking the wrong preference order. If you clear your first choice, BPSC won’t consider you for the lower ones.
  • Paying on 26 October. The fee deadline is 25 October.
  • Treating Part I as easy marks. It doesn’t count for merit, but below 30% you are out.

Should you apply?

Yes, if you hold the right TET. 33,320 posts is a big number, and Classes 11 to 12 alone have over 16,500 posts. For PG + B.Ed candidates in Chemistry, Physics or English, the odds are better than in most state exams this year.

Be realistic if you’re from outside Bihar. You’ll compete as general category, need 40% to qualify, and 40% of seats go to people who studied in Bihar. It can still work, but only with strong subject scores.

Next step: finish the form before 25 October, then start Part III. That’s 80 of your 120 counting questions at most levels. If you’re also eyeing a railway job, RRB NTPC Graduate 2026 is open till 6 November.
