Indian Coast Guard CGEPT 2026 vacancies

There are two batches in one notification. You don’t choose a batch for Navik (General Duty). The Coast Guard places you in 01/2027 or 02/2027 by merit.

CGEPT 01/2027 batch (190 posts)

Hygienist-I 9 1 5 5 0 20

So Navik (General Duty) has 260 of the 365 posts. Women can apply only for Navik (General Duty), which has 26 posts for them. Yantrik, Navik (Domestic Branch) and Hygienist-I are for male candidates only.

Zone-wise selection for Navik GD (male)

The 234 male Navik (General Duty) posts are split across five zones, and each zone gets its own merit list. Your zone comes from your domicile certificate.

  • South: Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep
  • North: J&K, Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh
  • West: Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Goa, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu
  • East: West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Sikkim and the other north-eastern states
  • Central: Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar

The advertisement doesn’t print the zone-wise numbers. You’ll see them on the portal while registering. All other posts, including Navik GD for women, are filled on an all-India basis.

One rule to know: if your zone has no reserved post for your category, you can still apply as an unreserved candidate. But then you get no age relaxation, no lower pass mark and no fee exemption.

Eligibility: qualification and age

Post Qualification Born between (both dates included)
Navik (General Duty) Class 12 pass with Maths and Physics 1 Nov 2005 and 1 May 2009
Yantrik Class 10 + a 3 or 4-year diploma, or Class 10 and 12 + a 2 or 3-year diploma, in Electrical / Mechanical / Electronics / Telecommunication engineering (AICTE approved) 1 May 2005 and 1 May 2009
Navik (Domestic Branch) Class 10 pass 1 Nov 2005 and 1 Oct 2009
Hygienist-I Class 10 or ITI or equivalent 1 Nov 2002 and 1 Oct 2009

Your school board must be recognised by COBSE. The advertisement also lists which diploma branches count as equivalent for Yantrik (for example Automobile, Production, Electronics and Communication, Instrumentation). Check that list in the PDF if your branch name is unusual.

Age relaxation: 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) and 5 years for SC/ST.

The official FAQ describes the work plainly: Navik (Domestic Branch) covers stewards and cooks, and Hygienist-I is sanitation work. Read that before you pick a post.

Medical standards you should check first

Many candidates clear the exam and fail here. These are fixed, and the advertisement says no waiver is given.

  • Height: at least 157 cm for men and 152 cm for women. Candidates from some hill and north-eastern areas get up to 5 cm less, and island territories 2 cm less.
  • Chest (men): at least 77 cm, with 5 cm expansion.
  • Eyesight: Navik (General Duty) needs 6/6 in the better eye and 6/9 in the other. If you wear glasses, you’re not eligible for General Duty. Yantrik needs 6/24 in both eyes, and Domestic Branch 6/36.
  • Tattoos: allowed only on the inner forearm (inside of elbow to wrist) and the back of the hand.
  • Teeth: minimum 14 dental points.

Selection process

There are four stages, and you must clear each one.

  1. Stage 1: computer-based exam in cities across India.
  2. Stage 2 at a Coast Guard recruitment centre (1 to 2 days): physical fitness test, assessment and adaptability test, document verification and medical examination. All of these are qualifying only.
  3. Stage 3 at INS Chilka, Odisha: Aadhaar-based identity check, original documents, final medical and police verification papers.
  4. Stage 4: your certificates are verified with the boards and universities after you join.

The merit list is made from your Stage 1 marks. If two candidates tie, the older one is placed higher.

The information brochure lists nine Stage 2 centres at present: Noida, Gandhinagar, Goa, Mangalore, Kochi, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata. You choose the date and centre after you’re shortlisted, first come first served.

Stage 1 exam pattern

100 questions, 100 marks, 1 hour. The paper is in Hindi and English. There’s no negative marking.

Subject Navik (DB) / Hygienist-I Navik (GD) Yantrik
Class 10 Maths 25 – –
Class 10 English 25 15 15
Class 10 Science 15 – –
General Knowledge 10 10 10
General Reasoning 25 15 15
Class 12 Maths – 30 –
Class 12 Physics – 30 –
Diploma subject (your branch) – – 60
Total 100 100 100

The brochure calls this format tentative. Pass marks are 40 for UR, EWS and OBC, and 35 for SC/ST. If the exam runs in many shifts, marks are normalised.

Passing isn’t the same as getting selected. With 100 questions in 60 minutes and no penalty for wrong answers, attempt every question.

Physical fitness test (Stage 2)

1.6 km run Squats Push-ups Bent-knee sit-ups
Male 6 min 30 sec 20 15 15
Female 8 min 15 10 10

All four are done one after another without a break. Stopping in between counts as a fail. Start practising them in that order now, not in February.

Salary and benefits

Post Pay level Starting basic pay
Navik (General Duty) Level 3 ₹21,700
Navik (Domestic Branch) Level 3 ₹21,700
Hygienist-I Level 3 ₹21,700

Dearness Allowance and other allowances are added on top, based on your duty and posting. You also get free ration and clothing, free medical treatment for you and your family, government accommodation or HRA, 45 days of earned leave and 8 days of casual leave a year, and a pension under NPS or UPS.

Training starts at INS Chilka in May 2027 for the 01/2027 batch and in November 2027 for the 02/2027 batch. You can’t marry or keep your family with you during training.

How to apply for Indian Coast Guard CGEPT 2026

The advertisement says applications are accepted online by the Staff Selection Commission and tells you to start at ssc.gov.in. The registration itself runs on the Coast Guard’s CGEPT portal, cgept.parikshasaarthi.in, which the Coast Guard’s own website links to. Use only these two sites.

  1. Open the CGEPT portal and click “Create Account”.
  2. Enter your name exactly as on your Class 10 marksheet. Verify your email and mobile with the OTPs. These two can’t be changed later, and the Coast Guard won’t recover them for you.
  3. Log in and choose one post. If you submit more than one application, only the latest one counts and the fee for the others is gone.
  4. Fill in the marks of every subject from your marksheet. Wrong or missing marks can get the application cancelled.
  5. Upload a recent colour photo and your signature (JPG, 10 to 100 KB each), an ID proof and a date of birth proof (JPG, 50 to 150 KB each). The portal also takes a live photo and matches it with the uploaded one.
  6. Male Navik (General Duty) candidates must upload a domicile certificate. It decides your zone.
  7. Pick your exam city preferences, with the nearest city first.
  8. Use the print preview to check everything, then pay ₹550 by UPI, card or net banking. SC/ST candidates skip the payment.

If you have Aadhaar, upload it as your ID. It’s compulsory at Stage 3 anyway. Carry the same ID to the exam.

Stuck on the form? The official helpdesk is support@parikshasaarthi.in or 7620207872.

Should you apply?

If you’re a 12th pass student with Maths and Physics, in the age window, with good eyesight and no glasses, yes. Navik (General Duty) is where 260 of the posts are, the paper is 60% your own Class 12 Maths and Physics, and there’s no negative marking.

Diploma holders should look at Yantrik seriously. It starts at Level 5, which is two levels above Navik, and 60 of the 100 questions come from your own branch. But there are only 60 posts in all, and just 9 for Electronics.

For women, I’d be honest about the numbers: 26 posts for the whole country. Apply if you want a uniformed career, but keep other exams going alongside.

Navik (Domestic Branch) and Hygienist-I have 45 posts between them and are open to 10th pass candidates. Know what the daily work is before you apply, because you can apply for only one post.

Three mistakes that cancel applications here:

  • Applying under a reserved category without a valid certificate. The Coast Guard doesn’t let you switch to general later. The certificate must be dated on or before 21 October 2026.
  • Blurred or half-scanned uploads. If a document has two pages, both must be in one file.
  • Names that don’t match across your marksheet, ID and category certificate.

And one warning from the advertisement itself: selection is on merit only. Anyone asking for money to “get you in” is a fraud. You can report them to the Coast Guard recruitment centre in Noida on 0120-2201340.

What happens next

The Coast Guard gives a correction window of 2 to 3 days after registration, but you can’t change your email, mobile number, category or date of birth in it. Then comes the Stage 1 admit card on your login. The Coast Guard hasn’t given exact dates for either, so check your login and email every few days. Any change to the advertisement will be published only on ssc.gov.in.

With the exam likely within a month, start with the subjects that carry the most marks for your post, and run 1.6 km a few times a week from now.

Want more options with deadlines after this one? See RRB NTPC Graduate 2026 (3,548 posts, apply by 6 November) and TNPSC Group 4 2026 (6,574 posts, apply by 5 November).
