RRB NTPC Undergraduate 2026: 1,688 Posts, Apply by 13 Nov

RRB NTPC Undergraduate 2026 applications are open from 15 October to 13 November 2026 (11:59 PM). There are 1,688 posts for 12th pass candidates under CEN 07/2026: Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Trains Clerk. The age limit is 18 to 30 as on 1 January 2027.

Update (15 October 2026): RRB has published the full detailed notice (CEN 07/2026, 57 pages). The post-wise and RRB-wise vacancies, age, fee and exam pattern below are now all from it, and nothing on this page is from the last cycle anymore. The big news: there’s no typing test this time, even for the two “cum Typist” posts.

By category, across all RRBs: UR 686, OBC-NCL 414, SC 258, ST 167 and EWS 163. Within these, 162 posts are for ex-servicemen.

For comparison, the last undergraduate cycle (CEN 06/2024) had 3,445 posts. So this year has less than half, while lakhs of 12th pass candidates still apply. Expect tough competition per seat.

DA, HRA and transport allowance come on top of the basic pay, so the in-hand salary is higher than the figures above.

Medical standard matters for Trains Clerk

Trains Clerk needs A3, the strictest of the three. That means distant vision of 6/9 in both eyes (glasses up to 2 dioptres allowed) and passing colour, binocular, night and myopic vision tests. If you wear thick glasses or are colour-blind, don’t rank Trains Clerk first. RRB says you won’t get another post if you fail the medical for the one you opted for. Trains Clerk applicants who’ve had LASIK must also give a separate self-declaration.

Commercial cum Ticket Clerk needs B2 (6/9 and 6/12, glasses up to 4D). The two clerk-typist posts need only C2.

For readers in the Telugu states: RRB Secunderabad has 72 posts: 60 Commercial cum Ticket Clerk (South Coast Railway), 8 Junior Clerk cum Typist, 3 Accounts Clerk cum Typist and 1 Trains Clerk. Of the 72, 29 are UR, 18 OBC, 11 SC, 10 EWS and 4 ST.

Not every RRB has all four posts. RRB Muzaffarpur, for example, has only 7 Commercial cum Ticket Clerk posts. The full post-by-category table for each RRB is in Annexure B of the PDF.

Eligibility

Educational qualification

All four posts need 12th (10+2) pass or equivalent with at least 50% marks in aggregate. The 50% rule doesn’t apply to SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen, or anyone with a qualification higher than 12th, like a degree.

You must have the qualification by 13 November 2026. If you’re waiting for a result, you can’t apply.

Graduates can apply too. If you have a degree, apply for both this and the Graduate notification. They’re separate CENs, so applying to both is allowed.

Age limit (as on 1 January 2027)

18 to 30 years for all four posts. In dates of birth:

Other relaxations: PwBD get 10 years (UR/EWS), 13 (OBC) or 15 (SC/ST). Ex-servicemen get 3, 6 or 8 years after deducting service. Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women who haven’t remarried can apply up to 35 (UR/EWS), 38 (OBC) or 40 (SC/ST). Serving railway Group C and erstwhile Group D staff with 3 years’ service get up to 40, 43 or 45.

There’s no COVID relaxation this time. That was a one-time measure in 2024.

Bank charges are cut from the refund. The refund only comes if you actually write CBT 1.

EBC is not OBC or EWS. To claim the ₹250 fee as EBC, you need an EBC certificate in RRB’s format, a BPL card or an Izzat MST issued on or before 13 November.

Exam pattern and selection

Selection has four steps: CBT 1 → CBT 2 → document verification → medical exam.

• Negative marking: 1/3 mark cut for each wrong answer, in both CBTs.
• CBT 1 only shortlists. RRB calls 15 times the vacancies (category-wise, per RRB) to CBT 2.
• CBT 2 decides your rank. Candidates equal to the number of vacancies (1:1) go to document verification.
• Minimum qualifying marks: UR and EWS 40%, OBC and SC 30%, ST 25%.
• Questions are available in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages, including Telugu.

No typing test this time

In 2024, Accounts Clerk and Junior Clerk had a typing skill test after CBT 2. CEN 07/2026 has dispensed with it, just like the Graduate CEN did. RRB says you’re still expected to type on a computer, and your typing will be checked after joining. Poor performance can delay your confirmation or promotion.

So you won’t be knocked out by a typing test. Practise anyway. A month of 20 minutes a day gets most people to a comfortable speed.

How to apply for RRB NTPC UG 2026

1. Fix your Aadhaar first. Your name and date of birth in Aadhaar must match your 10th certificate exactly. If there’s a mismatch, get it corrected now. It can take a week or more.
2. Go to rrbapply.gov.in. Create an account, or log in with your old account if you applied for any RRB CEN in 2024, 2025 or 2026. Details in “Create an Account” can never be changed, so fill them carefully.
3. Verify your identity with Aadhaar or DigiLocker. Forms verified with other IDs face stricter checks at every stage.
4. Choose one RRB and rank the posts and railway zones you want. If you leave a post out, RRB treats it as “not interested”. Options can’t be changed later.
5. Take the live photo, upload your scanned documents and pay the fee online (net banking, card or UPI) by 15 November.
6. Save the confirmation page.

Never submit more than one form. Multiple applications, even to the same RRB, get all of them rejected and can get you debarred from future RRB exams.

Made a mistake? You can edit everything except your account details and your chosen RRB from 16 to 25 November, at ₹250 each time.

Should you apply?

If you’re 12th pass and in the age range, yes. The fee is small, most of it comes back after CBT 1, and the maths and reasoning syllabus overlaps a lot with SSC CHSL and SSC GD. Your preparation for one helps the others.

Pick your RRB with care. Most people choose the nearest one, but that only makes sense if it has posts in your category. Look at Annexure B of the PDF for your category’s count before you choose. And since the typing test is gone, the CBT 2 score alone decides who gets the job.

But be honest about the numbers. 1,688 posts across India means some RRBs have only a handful of seats in your category. Keep SSC CHSL 2026 and state-level exams going in parallel.

What happens next

• 13 November: last date to apply (11:59 PM).
• 15 November: last date to pay the fee for a submitted form.
• 16 to 25 November: correction window (₹250).
• CBT 1 date: not announced yet. RRB will post the dates on rrb.indianrailways.gov.in. The exam city intimation comes about 10 days before the exam, and the e-call letter about 4 days before.
