OAVS recruitment 2026 is open for 815 posts of Principal and teachers in Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs) and Odisha Mining Adarsha Vidyalayas (OMAVs). The last date is 11 November 2026, 5:00 PM, and you apply only on oav.edu.in.

All 815 are regular posts on the Odisha pay scale. TGT candidates need OTET, OSSTET or CTET Paper II. Everyone sits a CBT that has a qualifying Odia section.

The category split surprised me. Out of 815 posts, 421 are reserved for ST (285 open ST + 136 ST women). UR has 179, SC has 150 and SEBC only 65. So if you’re an ST candidate, the competition here is far better than in most Odisha recruitments. If you’re UR, look closely at your subject: PGT Chemistry has just 5 UR seats, and TGT English, the biggest post at 150, has only 20.

Women get separate seats in every category (UR 50, SEBC 20, SC 48, ST 136). There are also 15 seats for ex-servicemen, 6 for sportspersons and 32 for PwD candidates across the four disability categories.

The notice gives pay levels, not rupee amounts. The posts also carry DA and other allowances, and you’ll be under the National Pension System (NPS).

Eligibility for OAVS recruitment 2026

Rules for every post

• Odia: you must have passed Odia (MIL) up to ME standard. If you haven’t, you can still apply, but you must pass that exam (conducted by BSE Odisha) within 3 years of joining.
• You must be able to teach in both Odia and English medium.
• Special B.Ed or D.Ed holders are not eligible.
• Percentages are not rounded off. 49.99% counts as less than 50%.
• Degrees from universities outside Odisha are checked for equivalence at document verification, so keep that proof ready.

For the Art, PET and Computer Teacher posts, the notice’s table also mentions 50% in the bachelor’s degree (45% reserved). Check the subject rules for TGT too. TGT Maths needs 200 marks in Maths at graduation, and TGT Science needs three of Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Biotechnology and Life Science.

The upper limit goes up by 5 years for SC, ST, SEBC and women, and 10 years for PwD candidates. Teachers already working under the Central or State Government or their autonomous bodies get up to 5 more years (not for Principal). Ex-servicemen follow the Odisha GA Department rules of 1985.

Selection process and exam pattern

Selection is in 2 or 3 steps: a Computer Based Test (CBT), then an interview, plus a performance test for Art and Computer Teachers. The question paper is in English and Odia.

PGT, TGT, PET, Art and Computer Teacher CBT (200 questions, 200 minutes):

Principal CBT (180 questions, 180 minutes): Part I is the same language test (40). Part II covers general awareness, reasoning, computer literacy and aptitude (40), Part III covers child development, education and teaching methods (30), and Part IV covers administration and finance (70). The interview is 60 marks.

Key rules:

• Each question is 1 mark, with 0.25 negative marking.
• Part I is only qualifying, but it can knock you out. You need at least 5 in English, 5 in Odia and 13 out of 40 overall. If you fail it, your other parts aren’t even checked.
• Interview: 40 marks for PGT, TGT and PET; 20 for Art and Computer Teachers (plus a 20-mark performance test).
• Final merit: CBT 70% + interview 30% for most posts. For Art and Computer Teachers it is CBT 50%, performance test 20% and interview 30%.

CBT cities: Baleswar, Bargarh, Baripada, Berhampur, Bhadrak, Balangir, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Rourkela and Sambalpur. You pick 3 in the form.

How to apply for OAVS recruitment 2026

Keep these ready first: a working email ID and mobile number (both should stay active for a year), a colour photo taken in the last 3 weeks (jpg, up to 100 KB, about 200×230 pixels) and your signature in black or blue ink (jpg, up to 100 KB, about 140×60 pixels).

1. Go to oav.edu.in and open the online application link for Advt. No. 1/2026.
2. Read the instructions, tick “I Agree” and click Start.
3. Sign up with your email ID and mobile number. Your login details come by email and SMS.
4. Log in again and fill in your personal and qualification details. Write your percentage up to 2 decimals. If you have a CGPA, convert it using your university’s formula.
5. Upload your photo and signature.
6. Pay the fee online through SBI e-Pay (debit card or net banking).
7. Download and print the system-generated form and fee receipt. You’ll need both at document verification.

Don’t register twice for the same post. Multiple registrations can get your form rejected. If you paid and got no confirmation in 48 hours, email the Grievance Redressal Form (at the end of the notice) to oavshelpdesk2026@gmail.com.

Should you apply?

Yes, if you have B.Ed and (for TGT) OTET or CTET Paper II. These are regular posts in English-medium state schools, and 815 is a big number for one Odisha teacher recruitment. The ₹1,500 fee is high, so apply only for a post you are clearly eligible for.

Think twice in 3 cases:

• You’re from outside Odisha and don’t know Odia. Part I alone can knock you out, and you’ll be teaching in Odia medium too.
• You’re a UR candidate in a small subject. PGT Chemistry has 5 UR seats and TGT Science has 21 UR seats across the whole state. Expect very high cut-offs.
• You can’t move. You can be posted anywhere in Odisha, and you sign a bond to serve at least 2 years.
