The AILET 2027 last date to apply is Tuesday, 10 November 2026. The exam is on Sunday, 13 December 2026, from 2 PM to 4 PM. If you’ve passed Class 12 with 45% (42% for OBC, 40% for SC/ST/PwD), or you’re writing your boards in 2027, you can apply. There’s no age limit.

The correction window is a safety net, not a plan. If you uploaded a blurred photo or typed a wrong detail, you can fix it there. But you can’t change your registered email ID at any stage, so get that right the first time.

AILET 2027 eligibility

BA LLB (Hons.):

  • Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent with at least 45% marks. It’s 42% for OBC and 40% for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
  • If you’re appearing for Class 12 in 2027, you can apply and write the exam. You must meet the marks rule by a cut-off date that NLU Delhi will announce with the result.
  • If you get a compartment in the year of admission, you’re treated as ineligible. Keep that in mind if one subject is shaky.
  • No age limit, minimum or maximum.

LLM (1 year): an LLB or equivalent law degree with 50% marks (45% for SC, ST and PwD). Final-year LLB students taking exams in 2027 can apply.

Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO candidates don’t write AILET. They’re admitted on their qualifying-exam marks (65% for BA LLB) and have their own seats.

AILET 2027 application fee

Category Fee
General, OBC, EWS, Foreign Nationals ₹3,000
SC, ST, Persons with Disabilities (PwD) ₹1,000
SC/ST candidates who are Below Poverty Line (BPL) No fee (upload BPL certificate)

You pay online by debit card, credit card, UPI or net banking. The fee is not refunded.

The notice says “SC/ST and women candidates who are BPL” are exempt. The application form, though, asks about BPL only under SC/ST. If you’re a woman from another category with a BPL card, email ailetsupport@nludelhi.ac.in before you assume you don’t have to pay.

If you’re applying for CLAT too, that’s ₹4,000 more, so about ₹7,000 for both. Worth it if law is your plan. Less so if you’re just trying it out.

Seats at NLU Delhi (BA LLB)

This is where AILET gets tough. There’s just one college and very few seats.

Category Seats
General 50
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) 24
SC 17
ST 8
EWS 11
Total on AILET merit 110
Foreign Nationals (5) + OCI/PIO (5) 10

PwD candidates get 5% horizontal reservation across these categories (6 of the 110 seats). OBC and EWS certificates must be issued on or after 1 April 2026, so if yours is older, get a fresh one now. You’ll need it in original at admission.

OBC reservation follows the Central List or the Delhi State List of OBCs. If your caste is only on your state’s list, check that it also appears in the Central List.

For LLM there are 70 seats on AILET merit, plus 10 for foreign nationals and OCI/PIO and 1 supernumerary seat for Kashmiri Migrants.

AILET 2027 exam pattern

The BA LLB paper is 150 multiple-choice questions, 150 marks, in 2 hours.

Section Questions Marks
English Language 50 50
Current Affairs & General Knowledge 30 30
Logical Reasoning 70 70
Total 150 150
  • Negative marking: 0.25 marks cut for each wrong answer. Four wrong answers wipe out one right one.
  • No legal knowledge needed. Legal principles may appear inside the Logical Reasoning section, but only to test reasoning.
  • Ties are broken by your Logical Reasoning marks, then by age (older first), then by a computerised draw.

The LLM paper is 100 multiple-choice questions on different branches of law, also 2 hours, with the same negative marking.

Notice the weight: Logical Reasoning is 70 of 150 marks, nearly half the paper. And it decides ties too. If you’re short of time, this is where your hours should go.

AILET vs CLAT 2027: what’s different

AILET 2027 CLAT 2027
Colleges NLU Delhi only 26 NLUs
Exam date 13 December 2026 6 December 2026
Last date 10 November 2026 31 October 2026
Questions 150 in 2 hours 120 in 2 hours
Fee (General) ₹3,000 ₹4,000
Sections English, GK, Logical Reasoning English, GK, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Maths

The two exams are a week apart and test similar skills, so one round of preparation covers both. AILET has no separate Legal Reasoning or maths section, and it gives you more questions in the same time. Speed matters more.

Full CLAT details are in our CLAT 2027 registration guide. If you haven’t applied for CLAT yet, its last date (31 October) comes first.

How to apply for AILET 2027

  1. Go to nationallawuniversitydelhi.in and click Register for AILET 2027. Your email ID becomes your user ID, and the password is sent to that email.
  2. Log in and choose the programme (BA LLB or LLM).
  3. Type your name, parents’ names and date of birth exactly as on your Class 10 certificate.
  4. Pick 3 test cities in order of preference. There are 32 cities, including Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
  5. Upload your photo and signature (details below), plus a BPL or PwD certificate if it applies to you.
  6. Pay the fee online and keep the acknowledgement receipt.

Photo and signature rules:

  • Colour passport photo with a white background, face covering about 75% of the frame, no cap or goggles (spectacles are fine). JPG or PNG, up to 1 MB.
  • Signature in black or blue pen on white paper, inside a 6 × 3 cm box. JPG or PNG, up to 1 MB.
  • You don’t upload caste certificates now. You show them in original at admission.

One thing to watch: a test city with fewer than 200 candidates won’t open. You’ll be moved to your 2nd or 3rd choice. So choose 3 cities you can actually reach on a Sunday afternoon.

Payment stuck? If the fee is cut but your login says “Payment is Pending”, wait 24 hours. If it still shows pending, email ailetsupport@nludelhi.ac.in with your application number, name, mobile, email and transaction details. Double charges are refunded automatically in 7 to 15 working days. Helpline: 011-40787555 (10 AM to 5 PM, working days).

What it costs to study at NLU Delhi

Before you get your heart set on it, look at the fee. NLU Delhi lists these yearly charges for Indian BA LLB students:

Fee head (per year) Amount
Tuition fee ₹1,63,000
Academic services and facilities ₹43,000
Utility services ₹20,000
Student welfare fund ₹7,000
Hostel (if allotted) ₹92,000
Mess ₹50,000

There’s also a refundable deposit of ₹25,000, and tuition goes up by ₹7,000 every year. The university says these figures are provisional.

Hostel is not guaranteed. Rooms are limited and allotted by distance from home, not by rank. If you’re from far away, you have a better chance. NLU Delhi has a financial assistance policy, so read it if the fee worries you.

How to prepare in the 9 weeks left

  • This week: apply for CLAT (deadline 31 October) and AILET together, so neither gets missed.
  • Weeks 1–4: daily Logical Reasoning sets (puzzles, arguments, assumptions, critical reasoning), one newspaper editorial for English, and 20 minutes of news revision.
  • Weeks 5–8: full CLAT and AILET mocks on alternate days. Download AILET’s previous-year papers from the official site and time yourself strictly.
  • Week 9: after CLAT on 6 December, spend the last week only on AILET-style mocks and revising current affairs.

Don’t try to attempt all 150 questions. With negative marking, 120 careful answers beat 150 rushed ones.

Should you apply?

If you’re serious about law, yes. Apply for both CLAT and AILET. NLU Delhi is in Delhi, close to the Supreme Court and big law firms, and that helps with internships. The extra ₹3,000 is small next to that.

But be realistic. 110 seats for all of India means the cut-off is very high, and most toppers have prepared for a year or more. Treat AILET as a bonus shot on top of CLAT, not your only plan. And if you’re unsure about law, write CLAT first and decide about AILET after a few mock scores.

Next step: register on the AILET website this week, check that your OBC/EWS certificate is dated after 1 April 2026, and take one full AILET previous-year paper this weekend. I’ll update this page when the correction window and admit card come out.
