The second weekend (24–25 Oct) is the next test.

Jailer 2 has opened big. Rajinikanth’s sequel earned about ₹59.70 crore net in India on day 1 (Thursday, 15 October 2026), and about ₹127 crore gross worldwide, going by trade tracker Sacnilk’s final day 1 estimates. That’s well ahead of the first Jailer’s opening.

Jailer 2 box office collection day 9

After the record first weekend, the weekdays held up well, then dropped once the weekend ended. Friday’s ₹14.50 crore is the lowest day so far, but it still came from more than 10,000 shows.

What the numbers say:

  • Monday and Tuesday were very strong (₹42–47 crore each), which is rare for a film’s first weekdays. The drop came from Wednesday.
  • Day 9 is down about 15% from day 8. A small Friday drop like this is a good sign going into the second weekend.
  • Overseas has slowed down. Only about ₹5 crore came in on day 9, after ₹190 crore in the first 4 days.

Jailer 2 box office collection day 4

Sunday was the biggest day since the opening. India net went up about 18%, from ₹47.25 crore to ₹55.85 crore, and occupancy climbed to 62%.

Day India net Occupancy
Day 1 (Thu, 15 Oct) ₹59.70 crore 55.4%
Day 2 (Fri, 16 Oct) ₹37.10 crore 48.2%
Day 3 (Sat, 17 Oct) ₹47.25 crore 53.9%
Day 4 (Sun, 18 Oct) ₹55.85 crore 62.0%

Kannada ₹0.65 crore 164 61.0% ₹1.80 crore

Source: Sacnilk, day 4 data, page updated 12:06 AM IST, 19 October 2026. Trade estimates, not producer figures. Sacnilk’s overseas total has been revised slightly since day 3. Koimoi’s early trend is in the same range (₹199–200 crore India net, ₹425–426 crore worldwide).

What Sunday tells you:

  • Tamil occupancy hit 80%. That’s as good as day 1, so the mixed talk about the second half isn’t keeping Tamil audiences away.
  • Telugu grew again (₹8.50 crore to ₹9.50 crore), even as Ranabaali had its first Sunday. Jailer 2 made more in Telugu alone than Ranabaali’s whole India number that day.
  • Hindi is still small but rising every day. ₹5.75 crore is its best day yet.

Jailer 2 box office collection day 3

Saturday brought the jump that Friday’s drop had raised questions about. India net went up about 27%, from ₹37.10 crore to ₹47.25 crore, and the film crossed ₹100 crore net in India.

Day India net Occupancy
Day 1 (Thu, 15 Oct) ₹59.70 crore 55.4%
Day 2 (Fri, 16 Oct) ₹37.10 crore 48.2%
Day 3 (Sat, 17 Oct) ₹47.25 crore 53.9%
Total (3 days) ₹144.05 crore
After 3 days Figure
India gross ₹169 crore
Overseas gross ₹152 crore (₹52 crore on day 3)
Worldwide gross ₹321 crore
Language Day 3 net Shows Occupancy
Tamil ₹33.80 crore 7,802 69.1%
Telugu ₹8.50 crore 2,100 58.4%
Hindi ₹4.50 crore 4,554 26.0%
Kannada ₹0.45 crore 148 49.0%
Total ₹47.25 crore 14,604 53.9%

Source: Sacnilk, day 3 data, page updated about 10:24 AM IST, 18 October 2026. Trade estimates, not producer figures. Other trackers give slightly different totals (₹47.80 crore for day 3, ₹317 crore worldwide).

Three things stand out:

  • Telugu went up on Saturday (₹7.25 crore to ₹8.50 crore) even with Ranabaali in its second day. Rajini is still leading in the Telugu states.
  • Hindi is finally growing. ₹4.50 crore is its best day so far, though occupancy is still only 26%.
  • Overseas is almost as big as India. ₹152 crore from abroad in 3 days is a huge number for a Tamil film.

Jailer 2 box office collection day 2

Note: Sacnilk’s final day 2 figure is ₹37.10 crore net, a little higher than the early ₹35.60 crore in the tables below. The language-wise split below is from the early data.

Friday was a working day outside the festive pockets, and Ranabaali opened in the Telugu states. Even so, Jailer 2 held on well.

Detail Day 2 (16 Oct) Total after 2 days
India net ₹35.60 crore ₹95.30 crore
India gross ₹41.85 crore ₹112.10 crore
Overseas gross ₹40 crore ₹97 crore
Worldwide gross ₹81.85 crore ₹209.10 crore
Footfalls (India) About 23.84 lakh About 61.31 lakh
Overall occupancy 47.7%
Language Day 1 net Day 2 net Day 2 occupancy
Tamil ₹43.35 crore ₹25.25 crore 60.1%
Telugu ₹12.50 crore ₹7.25 crore 54.3%
Hindi ₹3.50 crore ₹2.75 crore 21.0%
Kannada ₹0.35 crore ₹0.35 crore 46.0%
Total ₹59.70 crore ₹35.60 crore 47.7%

Source: Sacnilk, day 2 data as of 10:59 PM IST, 16 October 2026. Day 2 gross figures are worked out from Sacnilk’s cumulative totals. Early estimates; they usually change a little by the next morning.

What the drop tells you: India net fell about 40% from day 1. That sounds big, but a day 1 that was boosted by fan shows and an 18-lakh-ticket advance always falls hard on a working Friday. Tamil and Telugu both dropped about 42%. The Hindi version dropped the least (about 21%), though from a small base.

The Telugu number matters most. On the day Ranabaali released, Jailer 2’s Telugu version still made about ₹7.25 crore net with 54% occupancy. That’s a solid hold against a local star’s film.

Overseas is the other big story. ₹97 crore in 2 days means foreign markets are giving almost as much as India gross.

Jailer 2 box office collection day 1: language-wise

Tamil carried the film, as expected. Telugu was strong too, even with Ranabaali opening the next day.

Language Net collection Shows Occupancy
Tamil ₹43.35 crore 9,326 70.8%
Telugu ₹12.50 crore 2,792 56.2%
Hindi ₹3.50 crore 4,371 22.0%
Kannada ₹0.35 crore 110 54.0%
Total ₹59.70 crore 16,599 55.4%

The weak spot is Hindi. “Rajini The Jailer 2” got more than 4,000 shows but filled only about 1 in 5 seats. The Tamil version is doing the heavy lifting in Karnataka and Kerala too, which is why the Kannada version’s number looks tiny.

State-wise gross and footfalls

State Day 1 gross
Tamil Nadu ₹23.75 crore
Andhra Pradesh + Telangana ₹14.50 crore
Karnataka ₹14.50 crore
Kerala ₹12.70 crore
Rest of India ₹4.80 crore
India total ₹70.25 crore

Kerala is the surprise. ₹12.70 crore is more than double what the first Jailer made there on day 1. Mohanlal’s role is the most likely reason.

Footfalls: about 37.47 lakh people watched Jailer 2 in Indian theatres on day 1, as per Sacnilk. Roughly half of them had booked in advance: pre-sales for the first day closed at about 18 lakh tickets (Koimoi puts it at 17.94 lakh, leaving out block seats).

Jailer 2 vs Jailer: day 1 comparison

The first Jailer (10 August 2023) was a huge hit, so this is the comparison fans care about. Both sets of numbers below are Sacnilk’s.

Day 1 Jailer (2023) Jailer 2 (2026)
India net ₹48.35 crore ₹59.70 crore
Tamil Nadu gross ₹23.40 crore ₹23.75 crore
AP + Telangana gross ₹12.50 crore ₹14.50 crore
Karnataka gross ₹11.80 crore ₹14.50 crore
Kerala gross ₹5.90 crore ₹12.70 crore

So Jailer 2 opened about 23% higher in India. Tamil Nadu is almost flat. The growth came from Kerala, Karnataka and the Telugu states.

Jailer 2 public talk and reviews

The word of mouth is mixed to positive. Here’s what most first-day viewers agree on (no spoilers):

What’s working

  • Rajinikanth’s screen presence and mass scenes, especially the interval block
  • Anirudh’s background score, which gets the most praise of anything in the film
  • Nelson’s comedy in the first half
  • The reported surprise cameos, which drew big cheers in theatres

What isn’t

  • The second half slows down and loses focus, a common complaint
  • The villains feel weak next to the first film
  • Some hero-elevation scenes feel familiar

Spoiler warning: cameo names are already trending on social media. If you want to be surprised, mute “Jailer 2” keywords until you watch it.

Ranabaali box office collection: day 1 to day 3

Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali released on Friday 16 October. Here’s how it has done so far, as per Sacnilk (updated 19 October, 8:03 AM IST):

Ranabaali India net Occupancy
Day 1 (Fri, 16 Oct) ₹9.25 crore 57.0%
Day 2 (Sat, 17 Oct) ₹7.30 crore 53.0%
Day 3 (Sun, 18 Oct) ₹7.50 crore 56.0%
Total (3 days) ₹24.05 crore
India gross ₹28 crore
Overseas gross ₹8.90 crore
Worldwide gross ₹36.90 crore

The worrying sign: Ranabaali dropped about 21% on Saturday, a day when most films go up, and grew only about 3% on Sunday. On the same Sunday, Jailer 2’s Telugu version alone made ₹9.50 crore, more than Ranabaali’s full India number.

Before release, its advance booking (Sacnilk, 9:48 PM IST on 15 October) looked like this:

Ranabaali, Day 1 pre-sales (India) Figure
Gross (with block seats) ₹3.89 crore
Gross (without block seats) ₹3.32 crore
Tickets sold 2.44 lakh
Shows 2,643
Telangana ₹1.91 crore
Andhra Pradesh ₹1.51 crore
Top city Hyderabad, ₹1.36 crore

Overseas, TrackTollywood puts Ranabaali’s worldwide pre-sales at about ₹8.5 crore gross, and Koimoi reports USA sales past $200K including premieres.

Counter sales did lift it: a ₹9.25 crore net day 1 is more than double its pre-sales. But Jailer 2 has clearly taken the first round in the Telugu states.

Sunday was supposed to be Ranabaali’s comeback day, and it barely moved. Unless Monday holds close to ₹5 crore, the second week will be hard. A period drama like this needs good word of mouth more than a big opening. Our Jailer 2 vs Ranabaali clash post has the full side-by-side on cast, runtime and certificates.

What to watch for next

  • Second weekend (24–25 Oct): Saturday and Sunday will show how much life the film has left. A second weekend close to ₹40–50 crore India net in total would be solid.
  • ₹400 crore India net: at ₹348.85 crore after 9 days, Jailer 2 needs about ₹51 crore more. The second weekend and next week decide how fast it gets there.
  • OTT date: reports say Prime Video has the digital rights, but neither Sun Pictures nor Prime Video has announced a date yet.
  • Official numbers: Sun Pictures usually posts collection posters on its social accounts. When it does, treat those as “as claimed by the makers”.

Planning to watch? Book only on official apps or at the theatre counter. “FDFS tickets available” offers on WhatsApp and Instagram are a common scam during big releases. For the trailer links, cast and certificate, see our Jailer 2 release date and trailer post.

My take

A ₹127 crore worldwide start, and ₹424 crore in 4 days, is a strong result in a crowded week. The occupancy says Tamil Nadu and Kerala audiences turned up in full, and Hindi didn’t.

What decides the final total now is the second half. If you go in expecting a fun Rajini outing and not a tighter film than the first Jailer, you’ll probably enjoy it. If you were on the fence about Ranabaali, shows are easy to get, so there’s no rush. Go by what friends who’ve seen it say.
