Update (22 October 2026): The Paradise is now streaming on Netflix in five languages, and Friday brings Gajab Raat, Dorothy and Lupin Part 4 (Netflix), Chaar Yaar (Prime Video) and, in theatres, Hope and Clayface. I’ve added a new table for next week’s 30 October releases, including Killer, #Cult and Itllu Arjuna (Telugu) and The Influencer Project (Hindi).

At the box office, Jailer 2 crossed ₹300 crore net in India in its first week: about ₹317.20 crore in 7 days, and ₹582.45 crore gross worldwide. Ranabaali is at about ₹42.05 crore net in India after 6 days (₹59.65 crore gross worldwide). Both are Sacnilk’s trade estimates, not the makers’ figures.

Earlier update (19 October 2026): This week’s table is now 19–25 October. The big OTT one: Nani’s The Paradise streams on Netflix from 22 October, in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam (as reported; the date is said to come from Netflix South). Manoj Bajpayee’s Gajab Raat follows on Netflix on 23 October. In theatres, Hope and Clayface arrive on Friday 23 October.

Day-wise numbers are in our Jailer 2 box office post.

October 2026 is a crowded month at the cinema. Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 opened on 15 October, and the very next day, 16 October, brought Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali, two Rajkummar Rao films and Hollywood’s Street Fighter, all just ahead of the Dussehra holidays.

Below is the week-by-week list. I update it every week as dates shift.

The big theatre releases, one by one

Jailer 2 (15 October)

Rajinikanth returns as “Tiger” Muthuvel Pandian, with Nelson Dilipkumar directing again and Anirudh on music. It’s a Sun Pictures film, releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi (as Rajini The Jailer 2). We’ve covered the trailer links, cast and booking in detail in our Jailer 2 release date post.

It opened big: about ₹59.70 crore net in India and ₹125 crore gross worldwide on day 1, about ₹199.90 crore net after 4 days, and ₹317.20 crore net in India and ₹582.45 crore gross worldwide after 7 days, as per Sacnilk’s estimates (not official numbers from Sun Pictures). That makes it one of the fastest films to cross ₹300 crore net in India, though the weekday drop is now steep (₹46.80 crore on day 6, ₹28.15 crore on day 7).

Public talk is mixed to positive: people like Rajinikanth’s mass scenes and Anirudh’s score, and many say the second half drags. The language-wise and state-wise numbers are in our Jailer 2 box office collection post.

Vishwambhara (no longer on 16 October)

Chiranjeevi’s fantasy action film, directed by Mallidi Vassishta and produced by UV Creations, with Trisha Krishnan in the lead. It was listed on District for 16 October when I first wrote this list. As of 14 October it has been taken off that date, its District page says “Coming soon”, and no booking is open.

The makers still haven’t announced a new date as of 22 October. Some sites mention 13 or 20 November, and the newest reports say March 2027, around Mahashivaratri, because of pending VFX work. None of these are official, so ignore any “confirmed date” posts until UV Creations announces one. I’ll add it here when they do.

Official Vishwambhara teaser from UV Creations. The full trailer isn’t on the makers’ channel yet. Videos titled “Vishwambhara official trailer” on other channels aren’t from the makers.

Ranabaali (16 October)

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in a period action drama set in Rayalaseema during British rule, directed by Rahul Sankrityan (Shyam Singha Roy). It’s one of Vijay’s biggest films so far. With Vishwambhara out of 16 October, its main competition in the Telugu states is Jailer 2’s second day.

It released on 16 October. Sacnilk estimates about ₹24.05 crore net in India in 3 days (₹9.25 crore, ₹7.30 crore, ₹7.50 crore), and ₹42.05 crore net in India after 6 days, with ₹59.65 crore gross worldwide. It’s holding at around ₹5.5 crore a day on weekdays, which is steady but well below Jailer 2 even in the Telugu states.

The film has a U/A certificate with no cuts, as reported by Telugu media. The runtime hasn’t been confirmed by the makers (reports range from about 2.5 to 3 hours), so check the show length on your ticketing app.

Official Ranabaali trailer (Telugu) from Mythri Movie Makers, released 8 October. Careful: a “Ranabaali Official Trailer” from a channel posing as T-Series is fake.

Raftaar and Prahaar (16 October)

An unusual one: two Rajkummar Rao films on the same Friday.

  • Raftaar, directed by Aditya Nimbalkar, co-stars Keerthy Suresh. It’s a drama about two co-founders of an ed-tech start-up, and it’s the first theatrical production of Rajkummar and Patralekhaa’s banner, Kampa Film.
  • Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam, directed by Avinash Arun, is a courtroom drama with Rajkummar playing the well-known public prosecutor.

Dates for both were moved to 16 October earlier this year. If one of them shifts again, I’ll update this table.

Street Fighter (16 October)

The live-action film of the video game, directed by Kitao Sakurai. The Indian angle: Vidyut Jammwal plays Dhalsim, his Hollywood debut, alongside Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji and Jason Momoa. It releases in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Hope (23 October)

The new film from Korean director Na Hong-jin (The Wailing), a sci-fi thriller about what happens after a strange object is found. It was meant to release on 25 September but was pushed to 23 October during censor certification. The English version is certified. The Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions were still being certified when the new date was announced.

Still in theatres: Drishyam: The Conclusion

Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion opened on 2 October. Trade reports put its opening weekend among the biggest of the year for a Hindi film, so expect it to keep shows through October. If you missed it, there’s still time.

New on OTT this week (20–23 October)

Netflix announced The Paradise and Gajab Raat, and Prime Video announced Chaar Yaar. The rest are from news reports of the platforms’ plans, so check the app on the day.

The Paradise (Netflix, streaming now). Nani’s period action drama from director Srikanth Odela (Dasara), with Raghav Juyal, Kayadu Lohar, Mohan Babu and Sonali Kulkarni, and music by Anirudh. Nani plays Jadal, a tribal leader in the slums of 1980s Secunderabad. It opened in theatres on 24 September to mixed reviews.

It’s streaming in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam. Reports don’t agree on the Netflix cut: one says it runs about 2 hours 30 minutes (around 25 minutes shorter than in theatres), another says only 4 minutes were trimmed. Netflix hasn’t said.

Gajab Raat (Netflix, 23 October). A Hindi thriller set over one night, with Manoj Bajpayee, Saqib Saleem, Divya Dutta and Nushrratt Bharuccha. It was earlier titled Ghooskhor Pandat and was renamed after criticism of the title.

Varam (JioHotstar, 22 October). A Telugu thriller with Vishwadev Rachakonda and Shivathmika Rajashekar, about a poor man whose life changes after a mysterious boon.

Na Wife Missing (Aha, 22 October). A crime thriller with Varun Sandesh and Shweta Basu Prasad, in Telugu and Tamil. Aha Gold members are reported to get it a day early.

Koffee With Karan 9, episode 2 (JioHotstar, 21 October, 7 pm). Guests are reported to be Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, the Ranabaali pair.

Dorothy (Netflix, 23 October, as reported). Karthik Subbaraj’s Tamil drama with Keerthy Suresh in the title role, about two childhood friends in 1990s rural Tamil Nadu. It had an A certificate in theatres.

Also this week: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 (Netflix, 20 Oct), Nobody Wants This Season 3 (Netflix, 22 Oct), Lupin Part 4 (Netflix, 23 Oct), Chaar Yaar (Prime Video, 23 Oct) and Sumo Didi (ZEE5, 23 Oct).

Streamed last week (14–16 October)

Koffee With Karan Season 9 (JioHotstar, 14 October). Karan Johar’s celebrity talk show is back, reported to be its final season.

The Traitors Telugu (Prime Video, 15 October). A Telugu version of the reality game show, hosted by Teja Sajja, with 10 episodes.

The Diplomat Season 4 (Netflix, 15 October). The political thriller with Keri Russell returns. English, with the usual Netflix subtitles.

Roadies Rebirth (JioHotstar, 16 October). Season 21 of Roadies, with new episodes every Friday and Saturday at 7 pm, alongside the MTV India broadcast. Some outlets also list Netflix; the official announcements name only JioHotstar and MTV.

Enna Vilai (Netflix, 15 October). A Tamil court drama with Karunas as a Rameswaram fisherman caught in a false case and Nimisha Sajayan as his lawyer.

Aasha (ZEE5, 16 October). Urvashi, Joju George and Aishwarya Lekshmi in a Malayalam courtroom thriller, with Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada dubs.

Masterplan (Prime Video, 16 October). Stanley Tucci leads a heist to steal the Mona Lisa. Included with Prime.

Sacrifice (16 October). Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy. It’s a Netflix film in the US, but in India it streams on Lionsgate Play, not Netflix.

More on each title, with audio languages, in our OTT releases this weekend (16–18 October) list.

Still streaming from last week (8–9 October)

Mandaadi (Netflix, 8 October). Soori’s Tamil sports drama about traditional sailboat racing, directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi, with Suhas in his first Tamil film. Netflix has confirmed it in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. It reaches OTT less than a month after its theatre run, so it’s a good pick if you missed it in theatres.

Epic: First Semester (Netflix, 9 October). Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya (the Baby pair) in a Telugu romantic drama about a student finding his way abroad, directed by Aditya Haasan. Streaming in Telugu with four dubbed versions.

Reporting Live (Netflix, 9 October). A Hindi Netflix film with Parineeti Chopra as a young reporter who goes after an illegal sand-mining network. Directed by Dhruv Tripathi, with Adil Hussain, Amol Palekar and Shekhar Suman.

Khalifa (9 October). Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Malayalam action thriller, directed by Vysakh. In India it streams on Prime Video, aha, ManoramaMAX and Lionsgate Play, so you probably already have at least one of these.

All four need a paid plan on that platform. None are on a free tier.

Booking tips for the Dussehra rush

  • Jailer 2’s second weekend (24–25 October) will still be busy in Tamil Nadu, but weekday shows are much easier to get now that collections have dropped.
  • Book only on the official ticketing apps or at the theatre counter. “Bulk ticket” sellers on WhatsApp and Instagram are a common scam during big releases.
  • Weekday morning shows in the second week are usually much cheaper than opening-day evening shows.
  • Don’t watch or share piracy links or leaked clips. Besides being illegal, many of those sites push malware.

What’s still not known

  • Ranabaali’s official runtime hasn’t been confirmed by the makers.
  • Vishwambhara’s new release date.
  • Which dubbed versions of Hope clear certification in time for 23 October.
  • Official box office figures from Sun Pictures and Mythri Movie Makers. Everything here so far is trade estimates.
  • OTT dates for Jailer 2, Ranabaali and Drishyam: The Conclusion. No platform has announced these, and any date you see online now is a guess.

Check back on Thursday (29 October). I’ll update the 30 October list, add the OTT releases for that weekend, and start the November list (Diwali is on 8 November).
