Nani’s The Paradise lands on Netflix on Thursday, and Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy with Keerthy Suresh follows on Friday. Manoj Bajpayee’s one-night thriller Gajab Raat and Prime Video’s Mumbai crime series Chaar Yaar also drop on Friday.
From abroad, Lupin Part 4 is finally here, three years after Part 3, along with Nobody Wants This Season 3 and a new Korean chef drama, Final Table. Details below, with no spoilers.

Indian OTT releases this weekend
The Paradise (Telugu, Netflix)
Nani, who plays Jadal in The Paradise, during an interview (not a still from the film). Photo: Film Companion South / Wikimedia, CC BY 3.0
Nani plays Jadal, a man from a marginalised community in the slums of 1980s Secunderabad, who rises against the people crushing his neighbourhood. It’s Nani’s second film with director Srikanth Odela after Dasara, and Anirudh Ravichander did the music.
- Cast: Nani, Mohan Babu, Raghav Juyal, Kayadu Lohar, Sonali Kulkarni
- Audio: Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam (as reported)
- In theatres: 24 September, so it’s on OTT in exactly four weeks
It opened big and then slowed down, and reviews were mixed. Honestly, this is a film many people skipped in theatres and will try at home. If you liked Dasara’s rough, loud style, give it a go.
Gajab Raat (Hindi, Netflix)
A cop torn between personal gain and doing the right thing gets caught in a case that plays out over one single night. Netflix’s line for it is “Some choices cannot be undone.”
- Cast: Manoj Bajpayee, Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi, Divya Dutta, Kiku Sharda, Nushrratt Bharuccha
- Director: Ritesh Shah
- Producer: Neeraj Pandey (Friday Film Works)
This is the film earlier called Ghooskhor Pandat. The old title caused a row and a police complaint, so the makers withdrew it, and Netflix announced the new name on 15 October. Bajpayee and Neeraj Pandey last worked together nearly a decade ago, so for me this is the safest pick of the weekend.
Dorothy (Tamil, Netflix)
Two childhood friends in rural Tamil Nadu in the early 1990s, and a gentle woman named Dorothy whose misfortune changes the bond between them. It deals with caste and toxic masculinity, so don’t expect a light watch.
- Cast: Keerthy Suresh (title role), Sananth, Rishikanth
- Director: Karthik Subbaraj
- Music: Ilaiyaraaja
- Certificate: A (adults only) in theatres
It premiered at the Toronto film festival in September and opened in theatres on 25 September. The 23 October Netflix date is from news reports. I couldn’t find Netflix’s own post for it, so search for it on Friday morning.
Chaar Yaar (Hindi, Prime Video)
Four middle-class friends in early-2000s Mumbai (Jay, Tony, Saahil and Sameer) make one desperate money decision. That puts them between gangsters and the police.
- Cast: Purav Jha, Naman Jain, Saqib Ayub, Prayrak Mehta, Sai Tamhankar, Sikandar Kher, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Rajesh Tailang, Chunky Panday
- Director: Vinay Waikul
- Episodes: 8, all on 23 October
YouTube fans will know Purav Jha from his comedy videos, so it’s interesting to see him lead a crime drama.
Sumo Didi (Hindi, ZEE5)
A biopic inspired by Hetal Dave, known as India’s first professional female sumo wrestler, and her fight against body-shaming and family pressure. Shriyam Bhagnani plays her, and Jayant Rohatgi directs. It went straight to ZEE5 after festival screenings in Tokyo and Palm Springs.
A good pick if you want something real and short (about 2 hours, as reported).
The Legend of Hanuman Season 7 (JioHotstar)
The animated series reaches the war for Lanka. Hanuman goes looking for a special weapon that can defeat Ravan, and the story moves through time to show unknown parts of Lord Rama’s past. Sharad Kelkar is back as the voice of Ravan. Seasons 1 to 6 are already on JioHotstar, so kids who’ve been following it can continue right away.
International picks
Lupin Part 4 (French, Netflix)
Omar Sy, who plays Assane Diop in Lupin, at a film festival in 2020 (not a still from the series). Photo: Harald Krichel / Wikimedia, CC BY-SA 3.0
Omar Sy is back as Assane Diop. Netflix’s setup: four years after Part 3, Assane is in prison and wants to serve his time. Then someone signing as “Lupin” pulls off heists at several museums at once, and a camera places Assane at one of them. To clear his name, he has to escape and become Lupin again.
All 8 episodes come out on 23 October. Part 3 ended with Assane’s arrest, so a quick rewatch of its last episode helps.
Nobody Wants This Season 3 (English, Netflix)
Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) move in together for the first time. All 10 episodes come out on Thursday, 22 October. It’s an easy, funny watch with short episodes, so it’s good for a weeknight too.
Fading Grandeur (Spanish, Netflix)
This is the Spanish pick I promised last week. A broke marquis, Don Leandro, plans to sell his crumbling family mansion in Madrid, and he still dreams of being named a Grandee of Spain. The buyer, a rich businesswoman called Sofía Carrington, isn’t who she seems, and neither is he.
- Cast: Antonio de la Torre, Alexandra Jiménez
- Episodes: 6
- Creators: Álvaro Fernández-Armero and Juan Cavestany
The Terminal List Season 2 (English, Prime Video)
Chris Pratt returns as Navy SEAL James Reece. It’s based on True Believer, the second book in Jack Carr’s series, and takes Reece across Africa, Europe and the Middle East. Season 1 is on Prime Video if you haven’t seen it.
K-drama and anime picks
Love in Disguise (Korean, Prime Video)
A detective (Seol In-ah) disguises herself as a man to join the security team of a rich heir (Im Si-wan) who is suspected of murder. It’s a workplace rom-com with a mystery inside. It started on 19 October with 12 episodes in total, and new ones come every Monday and Tuesday, so it’s an easy one to start now.
Final Table (Korean, Prime Video)
Ahn Hyo-seop plays Kang Han, a genius chef who becomes head chef of a restaurant called Familia and enters a big cooking survival contest. It airs in Korea on JTBC from 24 October, as a weekend drama with new episodes every Saturday and Sunday (12 in total). Prime Video is streaming it in several countries from the same day. I couldn’t confirm the India listing yet, so search for it in the app on Saturday night.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 (Netflix)
If you’re an anime fan, this is the big one. Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red return with a new, standalone story about a different crew of mercenaries trying to survive Night City. You don’t need to have watched Season 1, though you should. All 10 episodes came out on 20 October.
One update from last week
Extraordinary Attorney Minami, the Japanese remake of Extraordinary Attorney Woo, wasn’t listed for India last Friday. It now shows on Netflix in JustWatch India, with a new episode each week.
What to watch, by mood
Photo: Shixart1985 / Wikimedia, CC BY 2.0
I haven’t watched these yet, so this goes by the story and the people involved, not a review.
- One strong Hindi thriller: Gajab Raat.
- Big mass Telugu film: The Paradise.
- Serious, award-type cinema: Dorothy.
- Binge over the weekend: Lupin Part 4 or Chaar Yaar.
- Light and funny: Nobody Wants This or Fading Grandeur.
- K-drama night: Love in Disguise.
- Anime: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.
- With kids: The Legend of Hanuman.
- Something real: Sumo Didi.
Before you press play
- Moana (live-action) is a maybe. Disney+ streams it from 21 October in other countries. I couldn’t confirm a JioHotstar date in India yet, so I’ve left it out of the table.
- Varam (Telugu, JioHotstar) is unclear. Some lists show it on 22 October, but I couldn’t find JioHotstar’s own date for it.
- Check the audio menu. “5 languages” in a news report doesn’t always show up on day one.
- Skip piracy sites and Telegram links. Everything here is on a legal platform, and those links are a common way phones get malware.
What’s still unknown
- Runtimes on Netflix for The Paradise and Dorothy. Reports say the OTT cut of The Paradise may be shorter than the theatre version, but Netflix hasn’t said so.
- Whether Final Table streams on Prime Video in India, or only in some countries.
- OTT dates for Jailer 2 and Ranabaali. Nothing is announced yet, and any date you see now is a guess.
