JEE Main 2027 Registration: Expected Date, Exam Dates, Fee
JEE Main 2027 registration is expected by end of October. Session 1 exam dates are out (22–30 Jan 2027). Documents to keep ready, fee, eligibility and steps.

JEE Main 2027 registration hasn’t opened yet, but the Session 1 exam dates are out. NTA’s exam calendar (16 September 2026) puts Session 1 on 22–24 and 28–30 January 2027, with 31 January as a buffer day.
Last year, the form opened on 31 October and closed on 27 November. So expect the JEE Main 2027 registration window to open around the end of October 2026. Use the next 3–4 weeks to fix your documents, because that’s where most students get stuck.

JEE Main 2027 registration date: what we know so far
Here’s what is official and what is only expected. Don’t trust any site that gives you an exact registration date right now. NTA hasn’t given one.
| Event | 2027 cycle | Last year (2026 cycle) |
|---|---|---|
| Aadhaar / category advisory | Not yet | 29 September 2025 |
| Registration opens | Expected end of October 2026 | 31 October 2025 |
| Last date to apply | Not announced | 27 November 2025 (9 PM) |
| Correction window | Not announced | 1–2 December 2025 |
| City intimation slip | Not announced | 8 January 2026 |
| Session 1 exam | 22–24, 28–30 Jan 2027 (official, tentative) | Between 21 and 30 January 2026 |
| Session 1 result | Not announced | 16 February 2026 |
NTA’s calendar notice says clearly that the dates are tentative and that it “does not constitute a notification”. The detailed information bulletin comes with the registration notice. I’ll update this page the day it’s out.
Documents to keep ready right now
This is the most useful thing you can do this month. Last year NTA pulled your name, date of birth, gender, photo and address directly from Aadhaar. If your Aadhaar doesn’t match your Class 10 certificate, you’ll have trouble at the form stage.
Check these now:
- Aadhaar card: name and date of birth exactly as in your Class 10 certificate, with a recent photo. Updating Aadhaar can take a couple of weeks, so start now if anything is wrong.
- Category certificate (EWS / SC / ST / OBC-NCL): must be valid and current. An old OBC-NCL or EWS certificate is a common problem.
- UDID card (for PwD candidates): valid and renewed.
- Class 10 marksheet or certificate: scanned as a PDF.
- Class 12 roll number: if you’re writing boards in 2027, you’ll enter your roll or registration number later.
- Your own mobile number and email: last year these could not be changed in the correction window. Don’t use a cyber café’s email.
Photo and file sizes (from the 2026 bulletin)
| File | Format | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Passport photo (colour, white background, 80% face with ears visible, no mask) | JPG/JPEG | 10–200 KB |
| Signature | JPG/JPEG | 10–100 KB |
| Class 10 certificate / marksheet | 50–300 KB | |
| PwD / UDID certificate | 50–300 KB | |
| ID proof (only if not using Aadhaar or DigiLocker) | JPG/JPEG | 10–200 KB |
You also have to take a live photo with your webcam or phone camera while filling the form. Last year, students whose live photo didn’t match UIDAI’s record had to get a certificate attested by their principal or a gazetted officer before the exam. Use good light and a plain wall.
Eligibility: who can apply
These are last year’s rules from the JEE Main 2026 bulletin. They usually stay the same, but check the 2027 bulletin when it comes out.
- No age limit. Your Class 12 passing year matters, not your age.
- For 2026, students who passed Class 12 in 2024 or 2025, or were appearing in 2026, could apply. Those who passed in 2023 or earlier could not. If the pattern holds, 2027 will allow 2025, 2026 and 2027 passouts.
- “Passing year” means the first year you were declared pass. An improvement exam doesn’t reset it.
- A 3-year diploma recognised by AICTE or a state technical board also counts as a qualifying exam.
Individual colleges (NITs, IIITs, state colleges) can have their own age or marks rules for admission. That’s separate from sitting the exam.
Application fee (last year’s rates)
The 2027 fee hasn’t been announced. This is what NTA charged per session in 2026, for centres in India:
| Category | Paper 1 only (BE/BTech) | Paper 1 + Paper 2 |
|---|---|---|
| General male | ₹1,000 | ₹2,000 |
| General female | ₹800 | ₹1,600 |
| EWS / OBC-NCL male | ₹900 | ₹2,000 |
| EWS / OBC-NCL female | ₹800 | ₹1,600 |
| SC / ST / PwD (male or female) | ₹500 | ₹1,000 |
| Third gender | ₹500 | ₹1,000 |
Processing charges and GST are extra. Pay online by UPI, card or net banking. Pay only once. NTA cancels the result if one candidate submits more than one form.
How to register for JEE Main 2027 (step by step)
Based on last year’s process. I’ll recheck it when the 2027 form goes live.
- Go to jeemain.nta.nic.in and click the JEE Main 2027 registration link.
- Register with your own mobile number and email. Verify with Aadhaar. You’ll get an Application Number. Note it down; it’s used for both sessions.
- Log in and fill the form: personal details, paper (BE/BTech, BArch or BPlan), qualification details and 4 exam cities.
- Take the live photo, then upload your photo, signature and Class 10 PDF.
- Pay the fee and download the confirmation page. Keep it until results.
Choosing cities: you can only pick cities in the states of your present or permanent address. Put the nearest one first. NTA tries to follow your order but can allot another city.
Session 2: you don’t fill a new form. Last year, the Session 2 window opened around the end of January and students applied with the same application number.
Common mistakes that cause trouble later
- Name mismatch between Aadhaar and Class 10. Fix Aadhaar now, not in November.
- Wrong category. Ticking OBC-NCL with an expired certificate creates problems at counselling.
- Blurry or dark photo. It’s the top reason for live-photo mismatch.
- Leaving it to the last 2 days. The site slows down near the deadline. Last year NTA said clearly there would be no extension.
- Assuming you can fix everything later. The correction window was one time only, for 2 days, and some fields couldn’t be changed at all.

JEE Main exam pattern (Paper 1, BE/BTech)
As per the 2026 bulletin:
| Subject | Section A (MCQ) | Section B (numerical) | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Chemistry | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Mathematics | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Total | 60 | 15 | 300 |
- +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong one, in both sections. Numerical answers also carry negative marking now.
- 3 hours. Shifts are 9 AM–12 noon and 3–6 PM.
- Paper 2A (BArch) and 2B (BPlan) have Maths (25 questions), an aptitude test (50 questions) and either drawing or planning questions.
Should you write both sessions?
Yes, if you can. NTA takes the better total score of the two sessions for your rank, so Session 1 costs you nothing extra except the fee.
Here’s how I’d look at it. Treat January as a real exam, not practice. But if it goes badly, you know your weak areas with two months still left before April. Students who skip January lose that feedback.
The only case for skipping Session 1 is if your Class 12 board preparation is far behind and January would hurt your boards. Even then, register in Session 1 if the fee is not a problem for your family; you can decide later.
If you’re aiming for IITs, remember that JEE Main is also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced. Four years from now, the same NTA-style process will come back with exams like GATE 2027 for M.Tech and PSU jobs.
What to do this week
- Open your Aadhaar and Class 10 certificate side by side. Check name spelling and date of birth.
- Check that your category or EWS certificate is valid for the current year.
- Get a fresh passport-size photo with a white background.
- Save this page. I’ll update it the day NTA opens JEE Main 2027 registration, with the direct link and the exact last date.

Frequently asked questions
When will JEE Main 2027 registration start?
NTA hasn't announced the date yet. Last year, Session 1 registration opened on 31 October 2025 and closed on 27 November 2025, so expect it around the end of October 2026 on jeemain.nta.nic.in.
What are the JEE Main 2027 Session 1 exam dates?
As per NTA's exam calendar released on 16 September 2026, Session 1 will be held on 22–24 and 28–30 January 2027, with 31 January as a buffer day. NTA says these dates are tentative.
What is the JEE Main 2027 application fee?
The 2027 fee isn't out yet. Last year, Paper 1 alone cost ₹1,000 for General male candidates, ₹800 for General female, ₹900 for EWS/OBC-NCL male, and ₹500 for SC/ST/PwD candidates, for exam centres in India. The fee is paid separately for each session.
Is there an age limit for JEE Main 2027?
There was no age limit for JEE Main 2026. What mattered was the year you passed Class 12. For 2026, students who passed in 2024 or 2025, or were appearing in 2026, could apply. The 2027 rule will be confirmed in the new information bulletin.
Do I have to write both sessions of JEE Main?
No. You can write one or both. If you write both, NTA uses your better total score of the two for the merit list.
Can I change my exam city after applying?
Only in the one-time correction window. Last year it was open on 1–2 December 2025, and mobile number, email, address and photo could not be changed at all. So fill these carefully the first time.
