If you haven’t done LPG Aadhaar biometric authentication yet, your subsidised cylinder booking is blocked from 1 October 2026. The fix takes a few minutes. Do it on your gas company’s app, at your distributor, or when the next cylinder is delivered. If you already did it any time earlier, you don’t need to do anything.

About 9 in 10 LPG households have finished it already. This guide is for the rest, and for anyone whose booking suddenly stopped working this month.

What changed from 1 October 2026

The government has been asking LPG consumers to authenticate with Aadhaar since 2023. The first deadline was 30 June 2026. It was then extended seven times, finally to 14 September 2026.

From 1 October, it’s no longer a request:

  • Done BAA already? Nothing changes. Book as usual.
  • Not done? You can book a subsidised refill at the regulated price only after you complete it. As soon as you authenticate, booking opens again.

The government’s reason: subsidised domestic cylinders get diverted to hotels and businesses, and some homes hold duplicate connections. Tying each connection to one Aadhaar-verified person stops that.

Who should do it

You need to do it if you have a domestic LPG connection (Indane, Bharatgas or HP Gas) and haven’t completed Aadhaar authentication before.

Not sure if you’ve done it? The simplest checks:

  • Try booking a refill. If it goes through at the normal price, you’re fine.
  • Ask your delivery person the next time they come. They can check on their app.
  • Call your distributor, or the helpline 1800 2333 555.

How to complete LPG Aadhaar biometric authentication

There are three official ways. Pick whichever is easiest for you.

Option 1: On your gas company’s app (from home)

Your gas company Official app
Indane (IndianOil) IndianOil ONE
Bharatgas (BPCL) HelloBPCL
HP Gas (HPCL) HP PAY
  1. Install the official app from the Play Store or App Store. Check the publisher name is IndianOil, BPCL or HPCL.
  2. Log in with the mobile number registered with your gas connection.
  3. Look for the Aadhaar authentication or e-KYC option and select your LPG connection.
  4. Follow the steps on screen. The app verifies you against Aadhaar using your face. On some phones, it asks you to install UIDAI’s official face authentication app first.
  5. Wait for the success message, and take a screenshot of it for your records.

The PMUY portal has official video tutorials for self e-KYC, which help if this is your first time.

Option 2: When your cylinder is delivered

The delivery person can do the authentication on the spot using the gas company’s app. Keep your Aadhaar number handy, and make sure the person whose name the connection is in is at home.

Option 3: At your distributor’s office

Visit your LPG distributor with your Aadhaar and your consumer number (it’s on your gas book or booking SMS). They’ll complete the authentication there. This is the best option for elderly people who aren’t comfortable with apps.

What if you don’t want to (or can’t) do it

You won’t be left without gas, but it costs more.

According to the official release, you can register your choice not to authenticate through your gas company’s website, app, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS. After that, you’ll get LPG at market price, without any subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, depending on what’s available locally.

Honestly, for most families this is a bad deal. The ministry says the implicit subsidy was about ₹210 per 14.2 kg cylinder in September 2026, and it touched ₹721 per cylinder in June 2026. Over a year of refills, that adds up to a lot. Spend 5 minutes and authenticate instead.

Common problems and fixes

Face authentication keeps failing on the app. Use good daylight, remove your glasses, and hold the phone at eye level. If it still fails after a few tries, do it at the distributor instead.

My mobile number isn’t registered with the gas connection. The app needs the registered number to log in. Visit your distributor to update it, or complete BAA at the distributor’s office directly.

The connection is in the name of a family member who has died. You’ll first need to transfer the connection to your name at the distributor. Carry the death certificate and your Aadhaar, and ask the distributor what else they need.

The elderly connection holder can’t travel. Ask for authentication at the time of delivery. That option exists exactly for this.

My booking still fails after authentication. Wait a day, then try again. If it still fails, call 1800 2333 555 with your consumer number.

Scammers love deadlines like this one. Watch out for:

  • SMS or WhatsApp links saying “your LPG connection will be blocked, click here to update KYC”. Use only the official apps or your distributor.
  • Callers asking for an OTP to “complete your LPG KYC”. No genuine gas company employee needs your OTP.
  • Anyone asking for money to do the authentication. The release mentions no fee, and the apps are free.

If someone has already taken money or an OTP from you, report it at 1930 (the national cyber crime helpline) or cybercrime.gov.in.

What to do now

  1. Check whether you’ve already done BAA (try a booking, or ask your delivery person).
  2. If not, do it today on IndianOil ONE, HelloBPCL or HP PAY, or at your next delivery.
  3. Help your parents or grandparents do theirs. They’re most likely to be stuck because of this.

Frequently asked questions

Is Aadhaar biometric authentication mandatory for LPG?

Yes, for subsidised refills. From 1 October 2026, you can book a domestic cylinder at the regulated price only after completing Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA). This is from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas release dated 19 September 2026.

I already did LPG e-KYC earlier. Do I need to do it again?

No. The ministry says consumers who have already completed BAA don't need to do it again, and their refills continue as before.

What happens if I don't complete LPG biometric authentication?

You can't book subsidised refills at the regulated price. You can still get LPG if you register that choice with your gas company, but it will be at market price without subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to availability.

How can I do LPG e-KYC at home?

Use your gas company's official app: IndianOil ONE for Indane, HelloBPCL for Bharatgas, or HP PAY for HP Gas. You can also do it when the delivery person brings your cylinder, or at your distributor's office.

Is there a fee for LPG Aadhaar authentication?

The official release doesn't mention any fee, and the apps and delivery-time authentication are offered free. Don't pay anyone who calls or messages offering to do it for money.

What is the LPG helpline number?

The toll-free helpline given by the ministry is 1800 2333 555.
