Ration card e-KYC last date: what’s official and what isn’t
There is no single all-India last date. Each state sets its own. So ignore forwards that say “ration stops across India from this date”.
Karnataka. The last date is now 10 November 2026. This is the second extension: the first deadline was 30 September, then 20 October (announced by the state’s Department of Information and Public Relations, along with longer ration distribution hours, 8 instead of 6). The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department moved it to 10 November, as reported on 18 October.
The numbers show why. As reported, about 1.16 crore beneficiaries whose e-KYC is more than a year old have to redo it, 3.82 lakh have never done it, and 54.27 lakh were last verified more than five years ago. The department has warned of action as per rules against those who don’t finish, so don’t treat a third extension as guaranteed.
Telangana. This one is less clear, and I’d rather tell you that than give you a neat date. The Civil Supplies Department first set 31 July, then extended it to 31 August. A 26 September report from Mancherial district quotes officials saying the government has extended it to the end of October, with about 20% of beneficiaries in that district still pending. I couldn’t find a state-wide order online for the October date.
What that means for you: treat October as the limit and don’t wait for the 31st. Telangana gave three months of rice together in August (for August, September and October), so shops will open again for the November quota. You want your e-KYC done before that.
Why this is being done now
A central order from July 2025 (the Targeted Public Distribution System Control Amendment Order) tells every state to do e-KYC of all ration card households once every five years. The aim is to remove names of people who have died, moved away, or hold cards in two places.
Two other points from the same order are worth knowing:
- Children: e-KYC is to be done within a year of a child turning five.
- Unused cards: if a card hasn’t drawn ration for six months, the state can temporarily disable it and verify the family within three months.
How to do ration card e-KYC at the ration shop
This is the route that works for everyone. It takes a couple of minutes per person once you reach the counter.
- Go to a fair price shop with the Aadhaar card of each member and your ration card number.
- The dealer picks e-KYC on the e-PoS machine and enters the member’s details.
- Each member places a finger on the scanner. Central guidelines also allow an iris scan where the machine supports it.
- Wait for the success message for each member before you leave.
Every member has to be there in person, because the fingerprint is theirs. In Karnataka, news reports say Grama One, Karnataka One and Bengaluru One centres are also doing it when a shop’s machine is down. Shops use the state’s AHARA software for this.

Ration card e-KYC online on your phone (Mera eKYC app)
The central food department told Parliament in August that beneficiaries can use Mera eKYC, an app from NIC that verifies your face against Aadhaar. Telangana officials are pointing people to the same app.
You need a smartphone with a decent front camera and the mobile number linked to that member’s Aadhaar.
- Install two apps from the Play Store (or App Store): Mera eKYC and Aadhaar FaceRD (from UIDAI).
- Open Mera eKYC, choose your state and allow location.
- Enter the member’s Aadhaar number and the captcha.
- Enter the OTP sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Tap face e-KYC. The Aadhaar FaceRD app opens. Hold the phone at eye level in good light and blink when asked.
- A success message confirms it. Repeat for the next member.
An honest warning: the app doesn’t work equally well in every state. Karnataka and Telangana run their own ration shop software. For Karnataka, the department now points people to its own Anna Seva app, which reports say works in all 31 districts and for Karnataka card holders living in other states. Update it from the Play Store before you try. If your state doesn’t show up, or the face scan keeps failing, stop trying and go to the shop. Three failed attempts on the app is my limit.
Install only from the official app store. Never install an APK sent on WhatsApp.
Working in another city or state?
You don’t have to go home. The central food department’s reply in Parliament on 11 August says NFSA beneficiaries can do Aadhaar e-KYC at a fair price shop of their choice anywhere in India. A Telangana card holder working in Bengaluru can walk into a ration shop there, and the other way round.
Family members can also do it at different shops on different days. Each person’s e-KYC is recorded separately.
How to check ration card e-KYC status
Karnataka: open ahara.karnataka.gov.in, pick your region (Bengaluru, Mysuru or Kalaburagi), tap Ration Card Status and enter your ration card number. Each member’s e-KYC status is shown.
Telangana: open epds.telangana.gov.in/FoodSecurityAct, tap FSC Search, and search with your ration card number. Reports say a member marked “Active” is done, and “Inactive” still needs e-KYC.
Check two or three days after doing it. If a member still shows pending, go back to the same shop with the Aadhaar card.
Common problems and fixes
- Fingerprint not matching (common for elderly people and manual workers): clean and dry the finger, try another finger, ask for an iris scan, or use the face scan on the app.
- No OTP: the mobile number isn’t linked to Aadhaar. Use the fingerprint route at the shop, which needs no OTP.
- Name or date of birth differs between Aadhaar and the ration card: get the ration card corrected first. In Karnataka it’s the “ration card corrections” link on the Ahara portal. In Telangana, ask at a MeeSeva centre or your local Civil Supplies office.
- Bedridden or very old member: call 1967 or your local food office and ask what your district is doing. I couldn’t find one written rule for both states.
- Member has died or moved out: ask the shop dealer or food office to remove the name, so it doesn’t stay pending on your card.
Don’t pay anyone for this
e-KYC is free at the shop and free on the app. No official will phone you for an OTP to “complete your ration KYC”. If a dealer asks for money, complain on 1967 (or 1800 425 00333 in Telangana).
If you’re on LPG subsidy too, that’s a separate check with your gas company. I’ve covered it in LPG Aadhaar biometric authentication, and Andhra Pradesh readers can see the Deepam 2 free cylinder dates.
My take
Do it this week, at the shop. The app is handy if it works for your state on the first or second try, but the fingerprint at the counter is the one route nobody argues with later.
Karnataka readers now have till 10 November, but this is already the second extension, so don’t plan around a third. Telangana readers have a little more time, but the date isn’t backed by a clear public order, so I wouldn’t bet a month’s rice on it. After you finish, check the status online once and take a screenshot.
Frequently asked questions
What is the ration card e-KYC last date in Karnataka?
10 November 2026. The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs extended it from 20 October, as reported on 18 October. It was first 30 September, so this is the second extension.
What is the ration card e-KYC last date in Telangana?
The end of October 2026, according to district officials quoted in a 26 September report. The last date announced state-wide by the Civil Supplies Department was 31 August, and I couldn't find a state-wide order online for the October date, so finish it as early as you can.
Is there a fee for ration card e-KYC?
No. It's free at the fair price shop, and the Mera eKYC app is free too. Don't pay an agent or a shop dealer for it.
Can I do ration card e-KYC from another state?
Yes. The central food department has said NFSA beneficiaries can do Aadhaar e-KYC at a fair price shop of their choice anywhere in India, or by face authentication on NIC's Mera eKYC app.
Does every family member have to do e-KYC?
Yes, each member on the card is verified separately with their own Aadhaar. For small children, the central rule asks for e-KYC within a year of the child turning five.
What happens if I miss the ration card e-KYC last date?
The member's name can be suspended or removed from the card, which cuts that person's share of ration. Central guidelines say a genuine beneficiary shouldn't be deleted only because of a technical failure, so if your fingerprint fails, report it and try again.
