NICL AO Recruitment 2026: 321 Posts, Apply by 28 Oct

NICL AO Recruitment 2026 is open for 321 Administrative Officer (Scale I) posts, and the last date to apply is 28 October 2026. National Insurance Company, a central government general insurance company, wants 200 Generalists (any degree) and 121 Specialists.

The catch: you need at least 60% marks in your graduation or post-graduation (55% for SC/ST/PwBD). Prelims are on 17 November, so you have about 5 weeks to prepare.

NICL AO vacancy 2026: discipline-wise

You can apply for only one discipline. If you apply twice, only your latest complete application is kept and the other fee is lost.

There are also PwBD seats inside these numbers. NICL says the vacancies are provisional and can change.

Eligibility: qualification and age

Educational qualification (as on 1 October 2026)

Every discipline needs at least 60% marks in either your graduation or post-graduation (55% for SC/ST/PwBD). NICL ignores fractions, so 59.99% counts as below 60%.

• Generalist: graduate or post-graduate in any stream
• Finance: CA or CMA, plus a degree in any discipline
• Legal: graduate or post-graduate in Law
• IT: B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in CS or IT, or MCA
• Automobile Engineers: B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in Automobile Engineering, or any engineering degree plus a diploma (at least 1 year) in Automobile Engineering
• Risk Engineers: an engineering degree in any branch other than CS/IT and Automobile
• Company Secretaries: ACS/FCS from ICSI, plus a degree in any discipline
• Agriculture: 4-year graduation or post-graduation in Agriculture, Agricultural Biotechnology or Agricultural Engineering

You must already have the mark sheet or degree certificate dated on or before 1 October 2026. Final-year students can’t apply this time.

If your university gives CGPA, you’ll need a certificate from the university showing its conversion rule and your percentage. Get it early, because you’ll need it at the interview.

Age limit

21 to 30 years as on 1 October 2026, which means you were born between 2 October 1996 and 1 October 2005 (both dates included).

Relaxations add up, but the maximum age can’t go beyond 45. There’s no ex-servicemen reservation in the officer cadre, only age relaxation.

Selection process and exam pattern

There are 3 stages: Phase I (prelims) → Phase II (mains) → interview. Final merit is mains and interview in an 80:20 ratio. Prelims marks are not counted.

Phase I: Preliminary exam (17 November 2026)

Same paper for all disciplines. 60 minutes, 100 marks, and each section has its own timer.

You must clear every section. About 15 times the number of vacancies in each category will be called for mains.

Phase II: Main exam (22 December 2026)

The objective test is 250 marks in 3 hours, followed straight away by a 30-mark descriptive English test typed on the computer (essay, précis and comprehension, 10 marks each).

The descriptive test is qualifying only. You must clear it, but its marks don’t go into the merit list.

Negative marking: 1/4 of the marks for that question is cut for every wrong answer, in both prelims and mains. Blank answers lose nothing.

NICL AO salary and service conditions

Starting basic pay is ₹82,485 in the scale 82485-4050(14)-139185-4390(4)-156745. NICL says total pay comes to about ₹1,14,000 a month in metro cities. You also get NPS pension, gratuity, medical benefits, group accident insurance and company or leased housing as per rules.

Read these conditions before you apply. They matter more than most people think:

• All-India posting. You can be posted anywhere, and you must stay at your first posting for at least 5 years.
• 4-year bond. If you resign before 4 years, you pay damages of up to one year’s gross salary, and you need 2 sureties (not blood relatives).
• Leaving during probation costs more. You repay all the gross salary you received, plus ₹25,000 for training.
• Licentiate exam. You must pass the Insurance Institute of India’s non-life Licentiate exam during probation (1 year, can be extended up to 2). If you don’t pass, you can lose the job.
• Specialists may have to stay in the same specialisation for up to 10 years.

Exam centres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

Phase I centres in Andhra Pradesh include Eluru, Vijayawada/Guntur, Kadapa, Kakinada, Kurnool, Ongole, Rajahmundry, Srikakulam, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram. Telangana centres are Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Khammam and Warangal.

Phase II centres for both states are Hyderabad, Guntur/Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. The full list for every state is in the advertisement. You can’t change your centre later.

How to apply for NICL AO 2026

Before you start, keep these scanned and ready:

• Photo (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm)
• Signature on white paper in black ink (not in CAPITAL letters)
• Left thumb impression on white paper (black or blue ink)
• A hand-written declaration in English, in your own handwriting, not in capitals. The text is: “I, ___ (Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required.”

Then:

1. Go to nationalinsurance.nic.co.in/recruitment and click Apply Online under “Recruitment of 321 Administrative Officers”. The form opens on IBPS’s site (ibpsreg.ibps.in/niiclsep26).
2. Click New Registration, and enter your name, mobile number and email. Note down the registration number and password.
3. Fill in your details using Save and Next. Your name must match your certificates and ID exactly.
4. Upload the photo, signature, thumb impression and declaration.
5. Check everything in Preview. You can’t change anything after you click Complete Registration.
6. Pay the fee online (₹1,000, or ₹250 for SC/ST/PwBD) and print the e-receipt and the form.

SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwBD candidates can choose free online pre-exam training in the form.

NICL has warned that some people are asking candidates to pay money into bank accounts. Apart from the application fee, NICL never asks for any money.

Should you apply?

If you have 60% in your degree and you’re already preparing for bank PO or IBPS exams, yes. The prelims pattern is the same English, reasoning and quant you’re already practising. And a starting basic of ₹82,485 is very good for a first job open to any graduate.

If you just wrote IBPS Clerk prelims, you’re already in exam shape. Use these 5 weeks for speed in quant and reasoning. Took the NICL Assistant prelims in August? Check the Phase I result here. Mains is on 30 October, so plan your AO prep around it.

Skip it if you have under 60%, if you can’t move out of your state, or if you’re planning to leave within 4 years for something else. The bond is real money. If you’re a graduate looking at railway jobs instead, RRB NTPC Graduate 2026 is open till 6 November.

Apply before 25 October. The IBPS site gets slow in the last few days, and a failed payment on 28 October means you’re out.
