How to check the NICL Assistant result 2026

There’s no login for this result. It’s one PDF of roll numbers.

  1. Open nationalinsurance.nic.co.in/recruitment.
  2. Under Recruitment of 500 Assistant (Class-III) 2026-27, tap List of Roll Numbers of Provisionally Shortlisted Candidates for Phase II (Main) Examination.
  3. Search the PDF for your 10-digit roll number (Ctrl+F on a computer, or the search option in your phone’s PDF reader). Your roll number is on your prelims call letter.
  4. If it’s there, you’ve qualified. The list has no names or marks, only roll numbers.

Lost your roll number? It is on your prelims call letter. The prelims call letter link is still listed on the same page, so try logging in there with your registration details.

Qualifying doesn’t lock your eligibility. NICL’s notice says you should make sure you meet the age, qualification and caste rules yourself. If you’re found ineligible, you can be removed at any stage.

How to download the NICL Assistant Mains call letter

  1. Open nationalinsurance.nic.co.in/recruitment.
  2. Under Recruitment of 500 Assistant (Class-III) 2026-27, tap Click here to download Call Letter and Information Handout for Phase - II (Main Examination). It opens the IBPS login page.
  3. Enter your registration number and your password or date of birth, and the captcha.
  4. Download the call letter and the information handout, and print the call letter.
  5. Check your name, roll number, exam date and time, reporting time and venue address. Visit the venue a day early if you can.

Read the information handout too. It explains the section timers and what to carry. Take the printed call letter and an original photo ID (with a photocopy) to the centre.

State-wise competition: how tough is it?

Vacancies are given state-wise, so your real competition is only the people who applied for your state. Here’s NICL’s own count of applications against vacancies for some big states.

State Vacancies Applications Applications per post
Andhra Pradesh 14 7,159 511
Telangana 15 8,662 577
Tamil Nadu 49 16,445 336
Karnataka 30 7,726 258
Kerala 35 8,867 253
Maharashtra 57 21,300 374
Uttar Pradesh 24 14,339 597
West Bengal 46 11,000 239
Rajasthan 36 12,676 352
Gujarat 34 7,687 226
Delhi 20 7,485 374
All India 500 1,60,911 322

These are applications, not the number who actually sat the exam, which is usually lower. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are among the toughest states this time: about 15 posts each, with 7,000 to 8,700 applications.

Across India, 16,575 qualified for 500 posts. That’s about 33 candidates for every post at the Mains stage. Mains is where the real filtering happens.

NICL Assistant Mains exam pattern (30 October)

Mains is online, 200 marks, 120 minutes. Each section has its own timer, so you can’t save time in one section and use it in another.

Section Questions Marks Time
Reasoning 40 40 30 min
English Language 40 40 30 min
Numerical Ability 40 40 30 min
General Awareness 40 40 15 min
Computer Knowledge 40 40 15 min
Total 200 200 120 min
  • Negative marking: 1/4 of the marks for that question is cut for each wrong answer. Blank answers lose nothing.
  • You need a minimum total score, set by NICL. The final merit list is made state-wise and category-wise from Mains marks only. Prelims marks don’t count.
  • NICL will capture your thumb impression, iris scan and photo at the Mains centre. Make sure your thumb isn’t injured or covered in mehendi.

How to prepare in 18 days

General Awareness and Computer Knowledge give you 40 questions in 15 minutes each. That’s about 22 seconds a question, so these sections are about what you remember, not working things out. They’re also where you can pull ahead quickest.

  • General Awareness (days 1–18, every day): current affairs from the last 4 to 6 months, banking and insurance terms (IRDAI, premium, reinsurance, claim, policy types), and recent RBI and government decisions. Spend 45 minutes a day on it.
  • Computer Knowledge: basics of MS Office, shortcuts, internet, networking terms, memory and storage units. One good revision source is enough. Don’t start a new book.
  • Reasoning and Numerical Ability: puzzles, seating arrangement, data interpretation and arithmetic word problems. One full mock every 2 days from day 5.
  • English: reading comprehension, error spotting and cloze test. Read one editorial a day.

Take your mocks with the same section timers as the real exam. Most people lose marks in Mains by running out of time, not by not knowing the answer.

After Mains: Regional Language Test and joining

Candidates who clear Mains will be called for a Regional Language Test (RLT) in the language of the state they applied for, for example Telugu for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It’s qualifying only, with no marks, but if you fail it you’re out.

You need to be able to read, write and speak that language. If you applied for a state other than your own, practise reading and writing it now.

Bring your original documents to the RLT: age proof, degree mark sheets, caste/EWS/PwBD certificates and so on. NICL’s advertisement gives the full list. NICL says total gross pay is about ₹53,000 a month at the start in a metro city.

What if your roll number isn’t there?

Check once more on a computer, because phone PDF search sometimes misses numbers in multi-column lists. If it really isn’t there, you didn’t clear prelims this time.

The NICL AO recruitment 2026 for 321 officer posts is open till 28 October. Its prelims cover the same English, reasoning and quant, and the pay is much higher, but you need 60% in your degree and must be 21 to 30. Check the eligibility before you spend ₹1,000.

My take

33 candidates per post is tough, but not hopeless. In most exams like this, not everyone who qualifies prepares seriously for Mains, and some don’t turn up at all. The ones who get through usually fill GA and Computer Knowledge quickly and leave enough time and focus for the reasoning puzzles.

The Mains call letter is out, so download it today rather than on 29 October, when the IBPS site is usually slow. And if anyone asks you to pay money “for selection”, don’t. NICL has warned that it never asks for anything beyond the application fee.
